What types of Fruits & veggies should I feed my Rabbit?
The most important food you can feed your rabbit is good quality hay and pellets. Choose alfalfa hay and pellets if the rabbit is under 6 months. Then start feeding the rabbit only timothy products…hay free choice (all day) and timothy pellets. Alfalfa will cause bladder stones/digestive problems which will be life threatening. As for fruits and veggies…a baby carrot twice a week and a small slice of apple(no seeds) twice is really all he needs. Treats are really extra and not necessary to good health. In fact, too much fruit or veggie can also cause problems. Think about it, a rabbits natural diet is wild grasses. I also feed mine fresh unsprayed dandelion greens, some grass, clover leaves and flowers and queen anne’s lace leaves. Most pet stores will carry timothy products for rabbits and many stores carry timothy hay.

Introduce one type at a time at 12 weeks, in small quantities. The eventual goal will be 2 cups of vegetables or more per 6 pounds of body weight as a full adult. Fruit should be fed at the rate of no more than an ounce or two a day (it’s a treat). Specific feeding guidelines are here: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.
Give him pellets or whatever that you can find at the pet store- ask an employee if you don’t know what kind. Fruits and veggies should be a treat. See what he likes but start with carrots, lettuce, apples, and celery in small amounts. An ideas for his name- watch his behavior for a few minutes, that should give you some good ideas!
