There are many different types of chimney and flue systems in existence, however generally speaking you are likely to have one of the following. Class 1 Traditional chimney Class 2 Prefabricated flue or lined chimney Pre-cast flue The above classifications can be further sub-divided which is why it is important to call on the services of a qualified gas installer who can advise further. Because gas safety regulations and building regulations are continually evolving it may be that your present flue system is now out dated and illegal for the type of fire you wish to have.
