What types of equipment were utilized to capture the underwater photographs? What is the creative process behind them and has there been any image manipulation?
Nikon SLR film and digital cameras in Aquatica aluminum housings, along with amphibious Nikonos cameras have all been used for the underwater photography, accompanied by Sea and Sea and Oceanic submersible strobes. As a point of interest, 75 percent of the images were taken in between 20 to 40 meters (66′ -132′) of water. The photographs are subsequently scanned either from slides or TIFF and RAW files in the case of digital cameras. They are then delivered to imaging laboratories for professional processing on either Kodak or Fuji photographic papers; and, aside from minor cropping and enlarging for an 11″ x 14″ format, there has been no digital manipulation of the images themselves. Upon their delivery to IDG, the images are then professionally double-matted on pH neutral (or acid-free) boards and encased within archival 16″ x 20″ metal and glass frames . . .
