What types of earthquake improvements are included in the proposed capital levy?
The school district has already addressed more critical issues that could potentially lead to injuries in the event of an earthquake. However, several smaller improvements would be made to improve a building’s resistance to damage during an earthquake, which would also reduce repair costs. The proposed improvements include strengthening connections between walls and improving supports for pipes and other equipment. The 2009 capital levy would pay for earthquake improvements at Brouillet, Hunt, Karshner, Shaw Road, Wildwood Park, and Woodland elementary schools and at Puyallup High School.
