What types of dyes are used in the fabrics?
The dyes that are used on the clothing range from clay and natural dyes to low impact dyes. The clay dyeing process and low-impact dyes eliminate artificially produced chemical dyestuffs and require no salt. All other components found in our clay dyeing process are of natural origin or biodegradable. As a comparison, conventionally produced dyes, and even more frequently the by-products of producing these dyes, are toxic. Additionally, many conventional processes use amazingly large quantities of kitchen salt which causes irreversible harm to the ecosystems in our rivers, lakes, and underground water sources when released from a commercial dye house. Low-impact fiber-reactive dyes are a synthetic dye that chemically bonds to clothing fiber molecules. The absorption rate of low impact dyes creates less waste water runoff and therefore a lower impact on the environment. People with mild chemical sensitivities can usually tolerate low impact dyes. Natural dyes however, come from various n
