What types of diamond coatings are available?
Crystallume has several different Infinium D coatings available. The standard diamond coating is 5 to 30 microns thick with an average grain size of 12 microns. Smooth diamond coating is coating 3 to 12 microns thick with an average grain size of .5 microns. The third coating, cubic diamond, has flat cubic morphology for wear surface applications. Cutting Tools This has been the major application of diamond coatings thus far. The machining of graphite, medium to high silicon aluminum, carbon fiber composites, wood, plastics and other nonferrous materials has seen large improvements in productivity due to diamond coatings. Wear Surface Diamond makes an excellent bearing material. The coefficient of friction of diamond can be as low as .05 when polished and it is the hardest known material. The chemical stability of diamond means that this surface will not become pitted and worn due to chemical attack. By combining these properties it makes the ultimate bearing and seal material. Heat Ma
