What types of counterfeit detection are available?
A variety of machines are available to detect counterfeit currency including, ultraviolet, magnetic, and watermark detections. There are counting machines that have counterfeit detection capabilities as well. Ultraviolet detection machines use light to detect the difference between legitimate bills and counterfeit bills, real bills appear dull under the light, but counterfeits appear bright usually because of the presence of bleach in the paper. Magnetic counterfeit detectors work by ensuring the presence of the magnetic component within a bill. If the machine does not detect the magnetic component, a light or alarm will be triggered to tell you the bill is counterfeit. Watermark detections are similar to ultraviolet detection, but more specific. During the paper making process, each bill is assigned a specific watermark which can be detected under a light with a detection device.
