What types of built-in AM antenna in the radios will give better reception than other types?
First of all, there are a few AM antennas that don’t require a direct connection to your radio. They work by “inductive coupling.” Basically they sit next to your radio and re-radiate the signal they receive. The best one, hands down, is made by C. Crane, called the Twin Coil Ferrite AM Antenna. But it costs $100. There is a slightly cheaper one called the Select-A-Tenna, which is sold by many people, at about $65. You can find it cheaper on ebay pretty easily. The disadvantage of those guys (besides the price) is that you have to tune both the antenna and the radio. Change the station, retune the antenna. Plus if you want portability, they add another piece of equipment to lug around (they aren’t heavy, but anyway.) So if you want a radio that has good AM reception, there are also a few options.
