What types of bones/chew toys can I fgive my puppy?
Raw marrow bones are the best type of bone for a puppy to chew on but experience has taught me to scrape out most of the marrow from inside the bone before giving it to the puppy because eating too much can result in diarrhoea. You can refresh the bone after a few weeks by stuffing some hard cheese inside it. This will keep the puppy occupied for hours. I sometimes spread peanut butter around the inside – they seem to like that. Ask your butcher for the middle of the marrow bone and get him to cut it in two. You can freeze one half for another time. I also give my pups Pizzles or Bully Sticks or the large Smokey Bones which you can buy at the Pet Shop. I find Pigs Ears are very fatty and they sometimes cause puppies digestive problems. I’m glad you know not to give rawhides. They are so dangerous for puppies, especially if left unattended with one. Enjoy your puppy!
