The following types of beneficiaries must have in care a child entitled to benefits in order to receive monthly benefits: A spouse under age 62; A mother or father; or A surviving divorced mother or father. The child in care must be under age 16 (or disabled, if age 16 or over). Benefits are not payable for any month in which the child is not in the parent’s care, or the child is age 16 or over and not disabled.
