What types of aircraft did the Argentinian Air Force use during the Falklands War?
The Fuerze Aerea Argentina is the Argentinian air force. During the Falklands War it operated from several airfields around the Falkland Islands. The Pucara, a two-seater Argentine-built twin turbo-prop light attack aircraft, was the type of aircraft flown most often by the Argentinians from the Islands themselves. During the conflict 25 Pucaras were lost with the SAS destroying 6 Pucaras on the ground on 15 May. A Pucara was responsible for shooting down a Westland Scout AH1, on 28 May 1982. The Scout had been on its way to evacuate casualties from Goose Green. The pilot, Lt Nunn, was killed and the aircrewman, Sgt Belcher, injured.
