What types of acoustic guitars are out there?
There are many styles of acoustic guitar, and every manufacturer will sub-divide a stlye into many “sub-catagories”. However, the types can be essentially divided thus: Nylon strung acoustics. These are the classical, or flamenco style. They feature (obviously) nylon strings, relatively small bodies, and wide, flat fretboards. They are typically a solo instrument used to cover melody in a classical situation, or, in a flamenco or other latin styles they may provide both chordal rhythm, and a percussive element (ie players will not only use the strings, but tap the bodywork of the instrument). Steel strung acoustics. These range in size from large bodied “country and western” style guitars, and arch-topped jazz acoustics, through medium sized “auditorium” and “concert” to smaller “parlour” guitars. The size and style that is used will depend largely on the style of music to be played. The larger bodied instruments are typcally used for “strumming” accompaniment to vocals, whereas smalle
