What type of worms are small thin black ones that thrive in showers and within shower loofah?

You know what, I had a poofy-sponge (some call it a loofah, but it really isn’t) and it looked like there were thin black worms within its folds. Every day I would look at it hanging there and do nothing about it – hoping that those worms would just die. Finally I threw it in the wash with some gardening gloves to see what would happen. It turns out those thin black worms were just nasty hairs. Blech. Gross, but at least not worms.
