What type of vehicle does the Lemon Law cover?
In 1983 the Texas Lemon Law was enacted by the Texas Legislature. The law provides for either replacement, repurchase or repair of the vehicle, or some other appropriate relief. It covers new vehicles, including cars, demonstrator vehicles, trucks, vans, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, motor homes and towable recreational vehicles that develop problems covered by a written factory warranty. Leased vehicles are covered. In 1985 a federal appeals court upheld its validity. Since that time the Legislature changed the Lemon Law to benefit more consumers and expanded the definition of a lemon. In 1997, the Legislature added towable recreational vehicles (TRVs) to the Lemon Law. To be covered under the Lemon Law a TRV must be made primarily for temporary human habitation, be titled and registered in Texas, be built on a single chassis, contain one or more life support systems, and be towable by another motor vehicle.
