The Eden Prairie Reserve Officers receive a great deal of training, both after appointment as well as ongoing throughout their career. Upon selection, reserve officers go through the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Police Reserve school one night a week for ten weeks. During this time, new reserves get orientation on how to behave at a crime scene, familiarization with Police K-9, Water Patrol, Officer Safety, law enforcement organization and many other pertinent subjects. Reserve officers also attend traffic directing school and first-aid, CPR and AED certification classes. Each month, reserve officers receive additional training on either new topics or refresher of previous training. Many of the reserve officers have taken the training much further by becoming First Responder or EMT-Basic Certified.
