What type of tasks do geophysicists do in their job?
Most work is indoors requiring laboratory work and research. Some Geophysicist work assignments are oriented towards field work in remote areas. Geophysicist may perform these tasks: collect and process seismic data for petroleum exploration conduct geophysical surveys to explore for minerals such as gold, base metals, diamonds or coal design, develop and operate computer systems and software to process and interpret geophysical data sets plan, conduct and interpret geophysical surveys to locate and estimate quantities of recoverable groundwater reserves conduct geophysical surveys prior to the construction of major engineering structures such as dams, bridges or roadwork study earthquakes and earthquake risk research new methods and instrumentation develop instrumentation for taking physical measurements develop mathematical models to interpret geophysical survey results.
