According to an experiment myself and a group of people in our science class conducted on filters containing: sand and gravel; sand, soil and gravel; sand, clay and gravel, sand, crushed limestone and gravel; a soil filter; and a soil and vegetation filter; the filter containing the clay performed the best in filtering contaminants out of the water.
