What type of religion did the ancient Romans practice?
The Romans were pagan for many years, worshipping first the spirits of the earth and other objects and forces in nature, before moving onto a pantheon of gods (which they adapted from the ancient Greeks and cleaned up the image of). Somewhat into the common era, they adopted Christianity, and this became the default religion for the Empire and many of its conquered areas for the next 2000 years.
