What type of product can be donated?
A. Any meat, poultry, or egg product that is safe, wholesome, and capable of use as human food can be donated. In addition, products that are misbranded or economically adulterated but are otherwise safe, wholesome, and capable of use as human food can also be donated. The Meat and Poultry Products Inspection Acts permit the donation of products to non-profit organizations (e.g., food banks, charitable institutions, child welfare facilities) (see section 403(a)(5)(A) of Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) and section 20(a)(5)(A) of the Poultry Products Inspection Act (PPIA).
