What type of prep should I do before hydroseeding?
You need to get all the weeds and bigger rocks out. Any rock bigger than the size of an egg should be removed. For best results, spray the weeds with round-up, give them one week to die, then till your soil and remove the rocks and dead weeds at the same time. If you till without killing the weeds, you will leave the live root system in the ground, allowing it to re-emerge quickly. If you have rocky or clay based soil it is recommended to bring in good top soil. It’s much wiser to pay a little extra for good top soil and have a healthy lawn, rather than planting in poor soil and spending a greater amount of money on fertilizers to try to make it look good. It is also recommended to have 2 to 4 inches of soft/lose soil on the surface allowing the grass to easily establish a deep root system. The better you prep, the better your lawn is going to look.
