What type of police check is required to apply for an ACL? Should I ask my loan writers who I wish to appoint as Credit Representatives to get a police check?
You will require an Australian Federal Police (AFP) Check to apply for an ACL. The reason for this is that all convictions for all states and territories are included in that check which is not necessarily the same for State Police based checks. The criminal history check that is required can be arranged via the application form on the AFP website (www.afp.gov.au) and is noted as a Code 25. The AFP Check must also not be dated more than 12 months prior to your application. We recommend that you also do the necessary background checks on people you intend to appoint as Credit Representatives, but it is not necessary to get an AFP Check, you just need to be satisfied that the statements you make during registration are true. If you have only recently moved to Australia or have never lived in here, you will need to provide criminal history checks from the countries you have lived in for the past 10 years. – The criminal history check must be from a recognised National Government Authority
