What type of poet was William Blake?

William Blake was a kind of ‘mystic’. He had experienced ‘Divine Visions’, which he dedicated himself to in his writing. He went some way towards popularising partial rhyme in his poetry and sought to explain human suffering by way of a complex mythology which often borrowed from ideas put forward in the bible, such as redemption, original sin etc but approached them in new ways.
