What type of moves are in hip-hop dancing?
The only true dance of Hip Hop is Bboying, more commonly but incorrectly known as “breakdancing.” Bboying means break boying because we dance to the breaks of songs. The dance was first named when people were dancing to the breaks of songs at one of DJ Kool Herc’s block parties. BBoying has four main parts: toprocking (dancing while standing up), footwork (dancing with hands and feet on the ground), freezes (stalling the body), and power moves (using momentum to spin or rotate). These categories can span into many different moves and variations because bboys (break boys) continue to make new moves and variations. In bboying, you aren’t limited to any moves. You can choose what moves to do or not to do, and you can even make up your own. Popping and Locking are two different styles of dance. These are Funk Styles, but can be considered a part of Hip Hop.
