What type of mental illness is having grandeur fantasies and delusional thinking at times?
By the definitions of the symptoms in DSM-IV TR at least the psychoses Schizophrenia and Bi-polar. The general belief is that most politicians can fit into this category and do it without being diagnosed as mentally ill. It describes the fact that I know that the scientific community does not ascribe or need to ascribe any human formed creator for the universe but I and many others sincerely believe that a God with human form did so create it. It progresses by “leaps and bounds” and is in itself a form of self hypnosis so can probably be treated by hypnosis with evidence to the contrary but this is difficult if the patient is not willing to be so hypnotized. The disorder is not necessarily bad since it often gives the believer a “raison de etre.” Good luck with your delusions, good mental health, peace and Love!
