What type of medical screening to the Donors undergo?
Once a potential Donor has been selected by a couple she undergoes medical screening which includes a carefully-examined medical history, a pelvic examination (including a pelvic ultrasound), blood tests to look for infectious diseases (HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis and HTLV-I), cervical cultures for gonorrhea and chlamydia and hormone blood tests to predict ovarian response to the fertility drugs. She will also undergo a psychological evaluation which will generally include an MMPI (personality inventory).
