a rigid material is formed using reinforcement ( steel grid / mesh like ) to reinforce the concrete by providing a grid or skeletal frame for the concrete to adhere to and bind the concrete , using reinforcement and concrete high tensile and compressive strength are achieved similar to steel alone but much less expensive , reinforced concrete can be considered a material in itself and gives man the ability to produce beams , slabs bridge decks skyscrapers that perform as well as steel .
Reinforced concrete is a mesh of steel rebars (short for reinforcement bars) around which concrete is poured. it is not a compound, but neither is it a mixture. It’s what you’d call a COMPOSITE MATERIAL. a composite material is a material made of a REINFORCING MATERIAL in a MATRIX. The reinforcing material in this case are the rebars, and the matrix is the cement. The reinforcing material is there to make it harder to break, because it is usually stronger and harder, and the matrix is actually the main material, and most likely, cheaper and more bendable. This is because, the harder and more rigid a substance is, the more susceptible it is to stress and the more brittle it is. Fiberglass is another example, this time, plastic around the glass is the matrix and the glass fibres are the reinforcing material. Glass is a very, very hard material(try scratching it: pure glass is so hard, a steak-blade wouldn’t scratch it), but because it is soo hard, it is brittle, and it is heavy too. plas
