I believe that adolescents should read a variety of literature in order to expose them to different thoughts and opinions, different mindsets and experiences. By reading about a variety of characters, adolescents have a chance to identify with different aspects of the characters. Many readers say that they feel the emotions and identify with the experiences that characters in their books have. Literature for adolescents, then, should help them do that. Some books that I’ve read that were effective for me as an adolescent are The Babysitter’s Club Series, Little Women, and A Wrinkle in Time.
