It has a drop ceiling which I could easily remove for access to install insulation. What type of insulation would be best to install between a drop ceiling and flat roof?” Answer: I suggest filling the cavity space above the ceiling. Given your location in Tampa and concern about heat, a vapor retarder is not needed. No matter the climate, an air barrier should be installed over the insulation. An air barrier is anything that will stop air movement. Housewrap, drywall, foam board and plastic are all air barriers.
