Not sure – I know the police in N.Ireland UK carry side arms all the time. Here in London UK we’ve got armed response units which can be called up when required. Also there are usually armed police at such as airports. I think also the police who guard the embassies here in London also carry arms. The ordinary copper on the beat is not armed with a gun here in London. The Met Police are opposed to being armed. http://cms.met.police.
