What type of government / laws are in Antarctica?
Antarctica is different then any other continent. Because no country can actually claim Antarctica as a part of their country and there are no native people. Because of this, there is no one government or set laws. Depending upon which base you are on depends upon what rules and laws you have to follow. Because I am on a U.S. base I have to follow U.S. Federal laws. When I go to Scott Base I fall under New Zealand Laws. If I were to go to a Russian or an Italian base I would have to follow their countries laws. Generally there aren’t any problems requiring there to be a huge set of laws. Everyone is checked to make sure they are responsible enough to be here and there are no trouble makers requiring any police officers. In fact there is no police department in Antarctica. The firefighters in our station are considered the closest thing to a security force. And our Station Manager is trained and certified as a U.S. Federal Marshal in case something does happen.
