What type of food does my new black kitten need?
As a general rule, it’s best to get your pet food from an animal supply store rather than the grocery store. Reason being that most of the pet food in grocery stores is garbage with filler. Check the ingredients for Meat (Chicken, Beef, Seafood) since cats are carnivores and need meat to be healthy. Meat should be the first ingredient on the label, if it is not, walk away. Then check that the second ingredient is an actual food item as well and not something you can’t pronounce. A common second ingredient is corn. Also, make sure the food you buy contains Taurine. Taurine is a necessity in the diet of a cat and prevents respiratory problems. A lack of taurine in the diet can lead to blindness. For this reason, it’s not okay to just feed dog food to cats because it doesn’t contain taurine. Until the cat is one years of age, feed him the kitten formula of food. It provides additional nutrients for a developing cat. Good luck!
