What type of follow-up care do donors need?

Some donors may go home with a tube in their abdomen that will need to be removed within several weeks. Donors will receive letters from the Coordinator at BCTS requesting blood tests every 3 months for the first year, and then yearly afterwards for 10 years. A yearly ultrasound is also recommended. This is to ensure that there are no delayed complications (such as bile duct narrowing) as a result of the surgery.
