What type of fasteners where used for small body parts?

Mine had square nuts but it is not clear that these were original. Only for the sake of true restoration, almost all, if not all, of the smaller, body fasteners (machine screws #12-8) used square nuts on my almost unaltered 3A, including harness straps, footman loops, hood bumpers, etc.
