Cyrus products use both GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and SMS (Short Message System) for channel communications. Generally GPRS is set as the default channel but SMS can also be designated. Both channels can be used simultaneously if needed. Cyrus devices support automatic switch offs for the different modes: it switches to SMS transmission if GPRS is not available and vice versa, switching to GPRS if SMS is not available.
