What type of care do the tall bearded irises require?
Light and slightly acidic soil is best for growing tall bearded irises. They should be fertilized in April and again two months later. Raised beds are recommended to maintain dry growing conditions. Rhizomes should be divided and replanted every three to four years in July or August. Mulch may be used in winter to protect the irises from frost. A minimum of six hours of full sun per day is good although all day sun is best.
