Otoplasty can be carried out under general or local anaesthetic. In younger children, it’s usually necessary to use a general anaesthetic since the procedure can take up to 1½ hours and patient cooperation is essential under local anaesthetic. In adults and older children, both methods can be used, though many opt for general anaesthetic.
