What type of AC powered amplifier may be safely used with an underwater speaker for swimming pool use?
• “UL Listed Commercial Sound Amplifier” printed clearly on the rear panel (with corresponding UL813 classification) • “Class 2 wiring” printed clearly on the rear panel by the speaker terminals • Factory grounded power cord (which MUST connect to GFCI power outlet with test/reset buttons) • Amplifier speaker output voltage must not exceed speaker rating or 30 volt rms legal limit, whichever is lowest. • The 30 volt legal limit must never be stepped up to higher voltages using transformers, as 30 volts is also the legal limit that may appear on an underwater speaker cable. Please verify this by having an electrician or electronics tech inject 1kHz test tone into amplifier while measuring the voltage past any transformer (on speaker cable) using a true RMS DVOM meter, while underwater speaker is in the water (with no swimmers in the water). Amplifier should be brought up to full output, with just perceptible distortion level. DO NOT USE any amplifier that exceeds 30 volts rms, and pleas
