What two core teaching strategies do you most use to achievethe result of influencing their lives?
I can offer two abstract and generic core teaching strategies: 1. Narratives. Stories are the most powerful rhetorical device at your disposal. You aren’t simply reciting information to students–you are telling them a story, with characters, a storyline, and a moral. You are also using stories throughout, to clarify the main points and arguments. We are, as Walter Fisher once observed, “storytelling animals”! 2. Applications. Connect what you teach to your students’ lives. How does the knowledge they are gaining benefit their lives? How can they connect? Can they see themselves in the people you are describing? Can they employ these skills in their own lives, or in their future careers? Yes, application is a teaching strategy, and one that can’t be ignored by the successful school teacher. Best of luck to you!
