What TV show was better – Hogan Heroes or Rat Patrol?
Altho when the pilot was written, hardly 20 years after all this was painfully, vividly real, the producers saw the program just about canceled because the network honchos were convinced something that funny couldn’t be funny again and it’d be only downhill from there. But Rat Patrol presented this odd story of Americans helping win the African war when that was almost entirely the British. A second superiority is that Hogan’s Heroes included soldiers from ALL the allies, and even had an African-American in their ranks(!) For both reasons, the latter is made superior to the former in spite of being funnier (because Rat Patrol wasn’t trying to be funny.
