What triggers lupus?
Some of these events may trigger the onset of lupus: • Photosensitivity or exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun, may cause a rash in some people; other symptoms may show up later. • An infection, like a cold or upper respiratory infection, can trigger the first signs of lupus. • Sometimes a more serious infection doesn’t get better, and then other symptoms start to occur. • Drugs can cause the first symptoms. • The first signs may begin during pregnancy, or they can show up after delivering the baby. • There are times when we don’t know what the specific “trigger” is. Many unrelated factors could trigger the onset of lupus.
