What treatments are available for snorers?
A great many snoring treatments have been promoted over the years. Non-invasive devices like throat lubricating sprays, nasal breathing strips and head-positioning pillows have enjoyed widespread media promotion. Dental devices claim to reposition the jaw during sleep to keep the airways open. Breathing machines (CPAP) that inflate the throat with air are a primary treatment for sleep apnea. Injection procedures, such as Snoreplasty, are intended to stiffen the tissue of the uvula, that little flap of skin that flutters at the back of our throats. More invasive medical procedures include Radiofrequency Tissue Reduction (RFTR) to shrink tissue at the back of the throat, Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) to remove excess tissue with laser or scalpel, and even a procedure called Maxillo-Mandibular Advancement where the jaws are surgically repositioned.
