What treatment is there for a patellar retinaculum tear?

I dislocated my knee cap (patella dislocation/subluxation), as well as have a lot of fluid and internal bruising. I also have a medial patellar retinaculum tear. I am most likely going to have to have surgery, but am wondering if surgery is also the treatment for the tear, or if it should heal on it’s own, and if surgery, what type of sugery.
