What Trasylol?
Trasylol is a drug manufactured by Bayer AG. It is also, generically known as aprotinin. There are two generic forms of Aprotinin also used by doctors during cardiac surgery. Trasylol is an injection used to reduce bleeding and clotting during open heart cardiac bypass surgery. Trasylol has been on the market for more than 13 years. It is used to prevent not only bleeding during surgery, but also to reduce inflammation. A recent study of Trasylol demonstrated side effects including an increase the risk of failure stroke, kidney failure, heart attacks. Some doctors are urging that the drug Trasylol be abandoned in favor of safer and cheaper alternatives.
