What training method is utilized by Aikido ?

Defeat means to defeat the mind of contention that we harbor within.” – Morihei Ueshiba Aikido’s training method consists of the following: 1) Instructor demonstrates a technique. John attacks, Jim throws John. Repeat four times, then Jim becomes the attacker and John becomes the one administering throws. The same technique is used every time, until instructor demonstrates another. 2) John attacks Jim repeatedly with one or several Aikido attacks while being thrown with techniques best suited to the particular attack. 3) Jim gets attacked by John, Jane, and Jung at the same time. Using a short, powerful throw combined with dynamic footwork, he uses his attackers as shields and avoids being taken down. Given how 1) usually occupies at least 90% of an individual practitioner’s time, let’s look at it in more detail. There are generally three different training modes for method 1): Step
