What training do co-oping parents receive?
All co-oping parent volunteers are considered teaching assistants. As such, they must participate in a training workshop before working in the classrooms. In addition, they must submit the required paperwork to work in the classroom including a clear TB test, a Criminal Background Check, and an annually notarized Release of Information. The workshop covers practical matters (where to find things, what to clean) as well as educational topics such as developmentally appropriate communication and guidance of children. Parents in each class receive general training in addition to information relevant to their particular class. In conjunction with monthly membership meetings, teachers lead class meetings for each class several times per year. Follow up training for co-oping parents is provided at these meetings. “On the job” training occurs each time a parent co-ops; teachers often hold a quick meeting with co-opers to discuss the day’s events and provide co-opers with feedback and assistan
