What Tragedies Did Shakespeare Write?
There are 10 Shakespeare plays usually defined as tragedies. In the order that he wrote them, they are Titus Andronicus, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, Coriolanus, and Timon of Athens. Some other plays were described as tragedies in his own time – eg Richard III – but nowadays these are classified as history plays. So officially there are 10 tragedies.
