What traffic and air quality impacts can we expect from Walltown Quarry?
Walltown Quarry will provide an environmentally sensitive source of aggregate for the County. As compared to the sole identified project alternative (e.g., Yuba Gold Fields), Walltown Quarry will significantly reduce overall truck haul distances within the County, primarily along the Hwy 50 Corridor. This, in turn, will reduce air pollution, traffic, and infrastructure degradation. Consider an average construction job that requires 15,000 tons of aggregate: If your typical truck hauls 24 tons per trip from the quarry to the job it will require approximately 625 trips. We will assume the haul from Walltown Quarry is a 1-hour round trip and the haul from a source outside of the county is 2.5 hour round-trip and that the job requires that the aggregate be delivered in 4 days during the 8-hour shift each day. The source outside of the county will need approximately 49 trucks running 32 hours each or 1568 hours collectively to deliver the materials on-time. Walltown Quarry would require app
