You can easily make a whole meal. The following is what i suggest to my American friends who want to be exposed to Indian cooking 1. Raita It is a cold soup made with yogurt, grated cucumber, salt pepper and crushed dry-roasted cuminn seeds. No real cooking is required 2. Moong Dal This is a hot soup. Make it with skinned split moong beans. The beans are cooked in 4 times the water by volume, add salt and pepper. Tempering with Ghee may be tricky, other wise serve with a gob of sour cream 3. Plain Rice Pilaf I would use Instant Rice. Add crushed saffron to instant rice before cooking. After cooking stir-in thawed baby green peas. 4. Potato Curry You can make a simple potato curry with red potatoes. Fry thinly sliced onions in canola oil to near brown, add minced garlic cubed red potatoes and curry powder. Fry for two minutes. Add one Tablespoon of water. Cover. Cook on low heat for 15 minutes.
