What tool should be used to cut through metal door frames?

I have an older condo with metal door frames on the interior doors. I have replacements but the doorknob holes are at 36″ and the old holes were at 40″. What tool do I use to cut through the metal to make a new “tongue” hole to hold the door closed; and what do you suggest to fill in the old tongue hole. Please don’t suggest door blanks because new preholed doors have already been purchased. Thanks for your time and I enjoy watching HGTV daily!
