What tool measures electrical power consumption?
Power is the rate of energy transfer or conversion. The unit of measurement for electrical power is the watt and the instrument that measures it is called a wattmeter. When energy is converted from one form to another, such as from electrical energy to heat, it is not actually consumed, but since we have “used” the electrical energy to get heat, we say that we have consumed it. Electrical energy is power, the rate of flow, multiplied by time. When we pay for electrical energy, it is measured in thousands of watt-hours or kilowatt-hours. The instrument that is used to measure electrical energy consumption is called a kilowatt-hour meter.
